Somatic Experiencing (SE) has profoundly transformed my legal practice by reshaping how I engage with accused persons, judges, police, and prison officers. By integrating SE techniques, I’ve developed a deeper awareness of my own physiological responses to stress and conflict, allowing me to remain grounded and present during high-stakes interactions. This has been particularly transformative when working with accused persons—I approach them with greater empathy and patience, recognizing how trauma may influence their behavior. Instead of reacting defensively to hostility or withdrawal, I use regulated breathing and body awareness to stay calm, which often helps de-escalate tension and fosters trust. Similarly, in courtrooms, my ability to remain centered under pressure has improved my communication with judges, enabling clearer, more composed arguments even in emotionally charged cases.
